- Ada Foah A coastal town in the South-East of Ghana situated between the Volta River and the sea
- Agoo My hostel. Located in Nima. Comes highly recommended.
- Access to Justice The project run by Theatre for a Change with female sex workers from the Old Fadama and Railways communities. Read more about it here.
- Azonto A dance originating in Ghana which mimics everyday activities
- Burkina Cow's milk combined with ground millet. I first tried it at a small house in a suburb of Afienya and it was boiled right in front of me on hot coals.
- Fufu The Ghanaian mashed potato. Generally made from yam and mashed until the starch breaks down to form a gooey ball.
- Jamestown A hugely vibrant and historical area of Accra. Situated by the sea, it is probably the poorest area of the city. It boasts an incredible fishing port, the British-built Fort James and a colonial-era lighthouse.
- Kayeyei Female porters working the markets in Central Accra. They tend to be young (teenage) and come to Accra from the Northern regions.
- Kumasi A town in the Ashanti Region, famous for its enormous market: the largest in West Africa.
- Nima The area I am living in, North of the City Centre. A poor part of town but with a wonderful community spirit.
- Obruni A white person.
- Old Fadama The largest illegal settlement (slum) in Accra. Theatre for a Change runs a project with sex workers from the settlement.
- Osu A commercial area in central Accra known for its shops, restaurants and nightlife.
- Railways A community of people living on the rarely used railways tracks of Accra.
- Red Red Black bean stew served with fried plantain and rice. Yum.
- Trotro A trotro is a minibus: rickety, old, probably highly dangerous but wonderfully real. Passengers cram inside and sit evasively next one another sharing bodily contact and sweat as they rattle along.
- Trotro Mate The mate takes the fares on a trotro and keeps the passengers in order.
- Twi An Akan language, widely spoken among the people of Ghana, especially in the Southern regions.
